How to secure your facebook login

 

Login Security

If you haven’t secured your facebook login you should do it immediately ! Login security is extremely important, there are people out there who spend their time unlawfully hacking in to facebook accounts, to help prevent your account from being compromised it is vital that you secure your login.

Securing your facebook login is easy, just follow the steps below.

Step 1: Log in to your facebook account. Once you are logged in click on “Account” at the top right hand corner of the page, then from the drop down menu click on “Account Settings”

Step 2: Scroll down the page and find “Account Security” and click on Manage or Change ( depending on your settings it will either say Manage or Change ) See the screen shot below.

 

 

Step 3: Once you have clicked on manage or change, you will see a page like the screen shot below.  I have already set up my security settings so the page you see may be slightly different from my screenshot, however you will get the idea. You might have to turn on secure browsing, and turn on login notifications, but you will see options to do this on the same page.

 

 

Step 4: If not already turned on, turn on secure browsing, and turn on Login notifications. Click the check box to select “Browse facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible” Then under “Login notifications” click the check box to select “Send me an email”  When this option is selected, every time someone logs in to your facebook account from a new computer, an email is sent to your email address, this will help you identify if anyone other than yourself is trying to login to your facebook account.

If you have already registered a mobile phone to your account then you can also select “send me a text message” But if you have not registered a mobile phone on your account then do not worry about this option.

Step 5: Click on the “Save” button to save your changes. Your account security settings are now updated and your facebook account and login are secure. Remember no account is completely secure from hackers, however these settings will help to prevent such attacks.

Facebook account is disabled.

Problem: When you try to login you receive a message saying your facebook account has been disabled.

Solution:

There are many reasons why your facebook account may have been disabled, and unfortunately that means you will have to contact facebook support. You will have to identify why your account has been disabled and then submit a request for help to the appropriate channel.

There are 3 reasons why your account may have been disabled, try to identify the reason why you cannot access your account from the list below. Then follow the instructions.

Reason 1: Violating facebooks statement of rights and responsibilities.

Your facebook account may have been disabled because it has been reported or detected that you have violated facebook policy. There are a few possible reasons for this, some of which are listed below.

1: Facebook may have sent you a warning or multiple warnings, warning you of prohibited behavior and the prohibited behavior has continued.

2: Unsolicited contact with other facebook users, this includes harassment, dating, advertising, promoting, and other inappropriate conduct.

3: Using a false name.

4: Impersonating a Celebrity, other Person, Entity or any other misrepresentation of identity.

5: Posting content that violates facebooks statement of rights and responsibilities. Prohibited content includes obscene, pornographic and sexually explicit photos, and photos or other content that depicts graphic violence. Facebook removes all content, photo or written that threatens, harasses, intimidates and causes embarrassment or unwanted attention to any individual or group of people.

Reason 2: Security disabled, disabled because of a security problem.

Your facebook account may have been disabled because it has been detected or reported as compromised or phished. If you think your account has been compromised or phished and was disabled for security reasons, visit the Security Help Center, find the correct contact form, and submit a request for help.

 

Reason 3: Login issues

When your facebook account has been disabled,  you will see a “Disabled” message when you try to login. If you do not see a “Disabled” message, then it means your account has not been disabled and you cannot login because of a login issue. You should visit the Login and Password Help Center, find the correct contact form, and submit a request for help.

login issues include:

  • Password problems
  • Error messages ( “Site Maintenance,” “Invalid/Unregistered Email Address,” etc.)
  • Forgetten your login email address or password
  • Other technical problems.

Problem: “incorrect email” error message

 

 

Solution:

This is most probably a cookies or cache problem, you will need to clear your browser cache and cookies.

Step 1: First close the facebook login window / tab in your browser, ( do not close your browser ) then with your browser still open find your browsers options, settings or preferences, there should be an option somewhere to clear cache and cookies.

Enter www.facebook.com in a new browser window or tab ( do not click a bookmark or link )

At the top right hand corner of the page you will see the login field. Try logging in again, make sure your “caps lock” is turned off, and begin entering your email and password again, make sure you are entering the correct email address, the correct email address is the contact email you used when you signed up for your account.

Step 2: If the above step does not work, try logging in with your facebook user name. If you registered a username when you signed up for your account then you can log in with this. If this works and you are logged in, go to “Account” at the top right of the page, click on this and select “Account settings” here you will find your email address.

Step 3: If the above step does not work, try logging in with a mobile phone number. If you have registered a mobile phone number on your account then you can log in with this. Enter the country code ( do not enter the + symbol and do not enter any leading zeros ) example for NZ users 64021…. or try 6421…. If this works and you are logged in, go to “Account” at the top right of the page, click on this and select “Account settings” here you will find your email address.

Step 4: Visit the Password Reset page and try locating your account, there are a few different options for locating your account on this page, if one option doesn’t work try the other options.

Step 5: If all else fails, if none of the solutions above work, you can get one of your friends to visit your profile page and locate your email address, they will be able to find it by clicking on the “info” tab on your profile, and then scrolling down to “contact information” Once your friend tells you the email address try logging in with that email address.

Login email address is invalid or expired.

 

Problem: login email address is invalid or expired.

 

Solution:

1. The email address you have specified for your account may have been inactive for some time. If you do not regularly use this email address you may have to reactivate it by visiting the email providers site. Or if you can remember your Facebook password, login to your facebook account with a different email address or mobile phone number that has been confirmed on your account. Once you are logged in, click on Account at the top right hand corner of the screen, then select Account Settings from the drop down menu. Here you can edit your email addresses.

 

2. If you cannot remember your Facebook password, go to the password reset page where you can reset your password and regain access to your account.
Tip: If you can’t identify your account using your email address, try searching for it with your name and a friend’s name.

How to login to your facebook account.

How do I log in to my Facebook account?

1: Go to facebook.com.

2: At the top right hand corner of the page you will see the email login field. It is located directly above the sign up section.

In the first text filed you can enter one of the following….

* your email address that you used to sign up with.

* Your username ( if you added one to your account when you signed up )

* A Mobile phone number ( if you have confirmed a mobile phone number on your account. Do not enter the zeros before the country code. )

2: Enter your password ( the password you chose when you signed up for a facebook account )

3: Click on the Login button.

4: You should now be logged in to your facebook account.

“password is incorrect” message

Problem: Password incorrect message

Solution:

If you are positive you are entering the correct password then follow the steps below. If you are not sure if you are entering the correct password then skip to Step 4.

Make sure your “caps lock” is turned off, and begin entering your password, if you had any capital letters in your password when you signed up, then the same letters will need to be capitalized.

Step 4: If the above steps do not work, you will need to click the “forgotten your password? ” link below the password field and follow the steps, your password will be emailed to the email address you used when you signed up.

I think someone is logging in to my facebook account

 

Problem: You think someone other than yourself is logging in to your facebook account or your facebook account has been hacked.

 

Solution: If you think someone other than yourself has logged in to your facebook account or if you think your account has been compromised by a hacker, follow the steps below.

Step 1: If you have not setup your log in security, please do this now here How to secure your facebook log in

Step 2: Once you have set up your log in security, you can check your account activity. This will show when your facebook account was last accessed, you will be able to see if anyone other than yourself has logged in to your account and when.

If you have only just set up your log in security, you will have to monitor your account activity over the next few days to see if anyone other than yourself is logging in.

Step 3: Follow the instructions below to check your account activity. Once you are logged in to your facebook accout, click on “Account” at the top right hand corner of the page, from the drop down menu select “Account Settings” Then scroll down the page and click on “Account Security” Your Account Security information will show and you can see your Account Activity.

If you see any activity that is not your own, you can end that activity by clicking “End Activity”

“Must be logged in to view this page” error message.

Problem: Receiving an error message saying “Must be logged in to view this page”

 

Solution: Ok i hate to tell you this but this is one of those issues that hasn’t been resolved yet, but we have been told that facebook is aware of the issue and they are working to resolve the problem as  soon as they can.

When there is a solution to fix the problem we will update this post, but for now you will have to submit a request for help here.

Photo security check login issue.

Problem: You don’t recognise anyone in the photo security check.

Solution:

The photo security check is in place to protect users from suspicious logins ( Either yourself or someone else is trying to access your account by logging in from a different computer than usual). If you do not recognise anyone in the photo security check, then you will need to wait a few hours before retrying the photo recognition process again.

Unfortunately this can be very annoying, but this security feature is in place to help prevent people from hacking your account. If you continue to have photo security check problems, you will need to submit a request for help here.

Android facebook app login problems

Problem: Trouble logging in to facebook with the Android facebook app.

Solution:

You need to make sure you have the most up to date version of the Android facebook app. On your Android phone go to “Market” – “My apps” – “Update” If there is an Update available you will need to download it.

If updating the Android facebook app doesn’t help, visit the facebook for Android app page to find information on the the most recent known issues and new builds. If you cannot find help here then you will need to submit a report.
